Our section directs and interprets all musculoskeletal exams performed at our hospitals and outpatient clinic locations. The MSK fellow is exposed to all diagnostic imaging modalities, including radiography, MRI, CT and ultrasound. The fellow also performs and directs approximately 300 CT, fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided procedures per year including joint aspirations and injections (fluoro and US), bone and soft tissue mass biopsies (CT and US), bone marrow biopsies/aspirations (fluoro and CT) and perineural/peritendinous injections (US). Our section works closely with the departments of Orthopedics (including two orthopedic oncologists), Sports Medicine and Rheumatology and participates in medical student and resident education. Elective time is available for research or rotations outside of MSK. Good communication skills and a commitment to teamwork are requisites.

Fellows interpret a broad range of cross sectional imaging studies and perform a wide variety of imaging guided invasive procedures. Clinical research opportunities are available but not required. Fellows are post-doctoral associates rather than occupying ACGME positions, and therefore there are opportunities for internal moonlighting to maintain general radiology skills. Responsibilities include independent radiograph interpretation and after hours resident supervision, but there is additional compensation for these duties. Candidates must have an MD or DO degree (the employer accepts foreign educational equivalent) and obtain a Florida medical license prior to employment.

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL is nationally ranked in 6 adult and 6 pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report.  University of Florida has busy Orthopaedic Oncology and Sports Medicine Services.  It is a Level I Trauma Center.  Musculoskeletal radiologists also work closely with other services including Rheumatology and Pediatrics. Our Department of Radiology is a state-of-the-art facility performing more than 400,000 radiological exams in 2017.  Currently, there are a total of 13 CT scanners (including multiple DECT’s) 4 1.5T MRs, and 4 3T MRs.  There is a dedicated interventional suite and ultrasound at our free standing Orthopaedic outpatient facility.

 

Gainesville has a metropolitan population of 280,000, highly ranked public and private schools, a growing high tech industry, lies less than 1 ½ hours from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, 2 hours from Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville, hosts numerous art and music festivals, and has great outdoor recreation year round.

**NEW**: The University of Kansas has an unexpected fellowship opening for the 2016-2017 academic year. A mixed fellowship in MSK radiology with up to 5 months elective time (Neuroradiology, body imaging, oncologic imaging, and breast imaging) is now available. This flexible position would be fully funded with benefits, and will provide excellent advanced training for entry into competitive private practice jobs. High end sports imaging (KC Chiefs/Royals), a high volume orthopedic oncology practice, and busy rheumatology service provide diverse training. A Diagnostic Radiology residency certificate from an ACGME accredited program is required. No home or pager call. No nights or evenings. One weekend per month of general rad call from 7AM-Noon will be expected working in house with staff. Dedicated academic time will be provided. Kansas City consistently makes “best places to live” lists, with excellent restaurants, arts community, museums, night life, and vibrant/safe community. The Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship at the University of Miami offers training in diagnostic radiography, MRI, CT and ultrasound. Fellows are exposed to multimodality cases in sports medicine, rheumatology, peripheral nerve imaging, trauma, and musculoskeletal oncology. Procedures include CT, MRI, ultrasound guided interventional and diagnostic procedures including joint aspirations, joint injections, arthrography, and soft tissue and bone tumor biopsies. The service has an active Sports Medicine component with close interaction with both major league and college athletics. The University is an active tertiary referral center for soft tissue and bone tumors in the South Florida area. There is close daily interaction with the Orthopedic Department and ample opportunities for research and publication. There are multiple 1.5 T and 3.0T MR Scanners on campus and at outpatient clinics across South Florida. The University of Miami is affiliated with Jackson Memorial Hospital, a 1,550 bed major teaching hospital with an active trauma service. Successful completion of an ACGME accredited radiology residency and a Florida license or eligibility for a Florida license is required for the fellowship position.Candidates must be Board eligible and must have completed training in an ACGME Approved residency program and have a Florida license or license eligibility.
