There is an unexpected open position in our fellowship for the 2026-2027 academic year for which we are accepting applications. While ideally the candidate would be able to start on 7/1/2026, we will be able to accommodate an off-cycle start date. Applicants with pre-existing H-1b visas are encouraged to apply.
The fellowship includes rotations through the UCSF Parnassus campus and the UCSF Orthopedic Institute at Mission Bay, which has a large Sports Medicine Clinic. The fellowship includes a significant volume of joint MRIs, outpatient and inpatient musculoskeletal imaging, as well as spine, pediatric musculoskeletal imaging, rheumatology, and bone tumors. Additionally, a significant volume of musculoskeletal interventions is performed by the fellows, including joint arthrography, steroid injections, bone biopsies, and radiofrequency ablations of osteoid osteomas. Our practice has an increasing number of diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound exams.
There is a close relationship between the MSK section and referring orthopedists and rheumatologists. The fellows participate and/or lead several inter-disciplinary conferences including sports medicine, tumor board, rheumatology, journal club, morbidity and mortality, and metabolic.
The Musculoskeletal faculty lead a dedicated fellowship curriculum, that includes didactic lectures, case conferences, and journal clubs. The fellows have opportunities to teach UCSF medical students and residents, as well as technologists.
For those interested in research, there are multiple, varied research opportunities with the musculoskeletal faculty, as well as with clinical research groups in rheumatology, osteoporosis, orthopaedics, and MR imaging. Additional research experience can be gained working with Musculoskeletal Quantitative Imaging Research (MQIR).
