SSR Outstanding Scientific Abstract Award
Revision Date: November 4, 2025
Purpose:
This policy governs the selection and administration of the SSR Outstanding Scientific Abstract Award(s) at the SSR Annual Meeting.
Policy:
The Program and Executive Committees will select the podium abstract presentation(s) which best exemplify outstanding direct clinical impact or exemplary study design and execution. Up to 2 winners may be selected in a given year. All members of the SSR, including members-in-training (MITs), are eligible for consideration. The lead author will indicate eligibility for award consideration at the time of abstract submission.
The winning abstract(s) will be recommended by the Program Committee, and then submitted to the Executive Committee following the conclusion of the Society’s annual scientific meeting. The SSR association management company (Veritas) will notify the author(s) of the award-winning abstract(s) upon final approval, which will be determined no later than the first SSR Executive Committee meeting following the SSR Annual Meeting. This award may be presented to an abstract which is also the recipient of other awards, such as the Young Investigator Travel Award (YITA).
The award includes SSR annual meeting registration fee waiver, and up to $500 travel stipend applied to a single SSR meeting in the two years following the award year (e.g., 2026 winner can apply the registration fee waiver and travel stipend to the 2027 or 2028 SSR annual meeting). The travel stipend is not to exceed the recipient’s total reimbursable travel expenses. Requests for travel expense reimbursement must be submitted in accordance with the SSR Travel Expense Reimbursement Policy, no later than 60 days following completion of travel.
If the award recipient is an MIT, the recipient may apply the award to a single SSR annual meeting in the two years following the award year, even if the MIT does not become a Full Member of the SSR during that time.
The award recipient will be recognized at the subsequent SSR annual scientific meeting, and presented an award certificate.
