Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Section Chief

Section Chief, Musculoskeletal Imaging
Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)

The Department of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, is seeking a superb individual to serve as our next Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging. The ideal candidate will continue to drive and will participate in the research, education, and clinical missions of the section, as well as advancing the careers of our outstanding MSK staff and trainees.

Our busy MSK Section currently has six full and part-time faculty members and two fellows in our ACGME-accredited program, and residents from our 44-person training program participate in this popular MSK rotation. All section members participate in our plain film call pool and collaborate closely with our Orthopedic, rheumatology, surgical, emergency medicine and other clinical colleagues.

In addition to being a Level 1 Trauma Center, BIDMC has a large and comprehensive Department of Orthopedics, that includes active orthopedic oncology, sports medicine, and orthopedic biomechanics groups that collaborate in research programs. MR and US neurography programs are run in collaboration with our department of Neurology. Excellent research support exists for both MRI and CT, including pulse sequence development and image processing.  In addition, the department will be engaged in the newly announced and exciting clinical collaboration between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BIDMC, and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) to establish New England’s only free-standing adult inpatient cancer hospital. The collaboration will bring together world-class clinicians to deliver transformational, precision medicine in an environment solely dedicated to defying cancer.

The MSK Section performs the full range of musculoskeletal imaging exams and procedures at the Medical Center’s main campus in Boston and at our affiliated community sites. Current facilities include 10 clinical MRI units (1.5T and 3T) and 12 CT scanners. Network sites feed a common PACS and the studies are read at BIDMC in Boston, as well as remote reading through home workstations.

BIDMC is a major Harvard Medical School-affiliated teaching hospital with 649 beds, a Level I trauma center, and highly competitive residency and fellowship programs across the range of academic medicine. Candidates should be excited to work in an academic environment and committed to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. BIDMC is an anchor medical center for the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) network, which includes 13 hospitals, 4,300 physicians, 35,000 employees and covers approximately 1.3 million patients in eastern Massachusetts.

Candidates for this position should have experience managing a clinical division, or equivalent level of operational experience, and be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Candidates should be eligible for appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at Harvard Medical School; salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
