Additional Information:
Positions Offered: 2 MSK fellows Duration: 12 months Other: The Musculoskeletal Radiology Fellowship Program is one year in duration and is located at three separate sites: the new LAC+USC Medical Center, the Keck Hospital of USC, and the Healthcare Centers. LAC+USC Medical Center is one of the world’s largest hospitals with a very busy level I trauma unit and a full complement of clinical services. The hospital has new, state-of-the-art imaging modalities including three 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners, 5 MDCT scanners and a PET-CT unit. The Keck Hospital of USC site contains two MDCT (16 and 64 slice) scanners as well as a 1.5 Tesla Symphony MR and two 3 Tesla GE MR systems. The adjacent Healthcare Consultation Center is an outpatient facility where rheumatology and orthopedic patients are seen. A large proportion of MSK imaging is performed at this location, which houses a 3.0 Tesla GE MRI scanner, a 3.0 Tesla Toshiba MRI scanner and a 1.5 Tesla Siemens MRI scanner, a 320 detector Toshiba CT with metal reduction artifact software in addition to three dedicated ultrasound rooms as well as an interventional radiology suite. The fellowship focuses on all aspects and modalities of musculoskeletal imaging and procedures. This includes conventional radiography, ultrasound, CT, MR and PET-CT. Image-guided procedures such as arthrography, biopsy and image-guided therapeutic injections are routinely performed. There are large rheumatology and orthopedic departments at USC. All subspecialty areas of orthopedic surgery are well represented with fellowship-trained surgeons in all areas. The Musculoskeletal Imaging Section serves as consultants for USC athletics and their physicians, including the USC football team, as well as the basketball, baseball, volleyball, swimming, and water polo teams amongst others. We also serve as consultants for ballet dancers and other visiting professional athletes. In addition to our expertise in musculoskeletal imaging, we offer a variety of minimally invasive procedures, some of which are not offered by anyone else in the area. We have authored multiple publications and participate in major national radiology conferences each year. Our staff trains 2 musculoskeletal radiology fellows annually. Education is a priority, and staff provides numerous didactic and case conferences to both the residents and fellows throughout the year. We also participate in weekly conferences with the Department of Orthopedics, including an orthopedic-oncology tumor conference and a sports injury-MRI correlation conference. We also have spine conference as well as a combined rheumatology-radiology conference.
