Clinical Training Offered:

The clinical component is designed to build upon the skills learned during the fellow’s previous residency. The fellow will be trained in all modalities of musculoskeletal imaging, including radiography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI, and procedures will be performed under attending supervision. Close collaboration with multiple referring services including orthopedics, podiatry, sports medicine, rheumatology, infectious disease, and other fields in medicine.

Other: Boston Medical Center, the primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine and the largest safety net hospital in New England. This one-year musculoskeletal (MSK) fellowship encompasses all facets of MSK imaging, including spine, and interventional modalities. There is an emphasis on sports injuries, infection, trauma, and arthritis/ joint replacement imaging. We have a busy MSK ultrasound service performing both diagnostic and interventional procedures. Additionally, the fellow participates in resident and medical student education and there are multiple research opportunities, many in collaboration with other departments including orthopedics, sports medicine and podiatry. We offer up to 3 months of elective time to allow the fellow to be prepared for either an academic or private practice career.

Brigham and Women’s/MGH Health Care Center adjacent to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots is one of the BWH MSK Imaging sites which include: The BWH Orthopaedic and Arthritis Center in the Building for Transformational Medicine on the main campus (opened October 2016), The 850 Boylston Ambulatory Outpatient Imaging Center (home to the Cartilage Repair Center, Arthritis and Sports Medicine Centers), and BWH Faulkner Hospital (Home of the New Orthopedic and Spine Center) . The Musculoskeletal Imaging and Interventional Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is responsible for all MSK imaging and interventions at these sites.

Other: UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) is a 682 bed tertiary care facility and the major teaching hospital for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. UMMMC is Worcester county’s only Level I trauma center and the tertiary referral center for central Massachusetts. Over 140,000 musculoskeletal imaging examinations and procedures are performed annually from a diverse case mix including: trauma, joint replacement, oncology, rheumatology, podiatry and sports medicine. Elective time is available (e.g. nuclear medicine, emergency radiology, pediatric radiology, breast radiology). Numerous opportunities for medical student and resident teaching and research opportunities are available to the fellow with academic support.
